If you live in Colorado, you know that the state is infamous for being windy. In fact, Colorado is one of the windiest states in the United States. There are a few reasons why Colorado has been so windy.

First, the Rocky Mountains act as a barrier to the east-west flowing jet stream. The jet stream is a river of air high in the atmosphere that helps to create weather patterns across North America. When the jet stream encounters the Rocky Mountains, it is forced to rise over them.

This rising air creates an area of low pressure on the leeward (downwind) side of the mountains.

There are a few reasons why Colorado has been so windy lately. First, we’ve had a lot of high pressure systems moving in from the west. These systems bring with them strong winds that can last for several days.
