Sergeant First Class Matthew Lewellen, 27, of Wheat Ridge, was killed in action on Monday while serving in Afghanistan. Lewellen was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team based out of Fort Carson.

He deployed to Afghanistan in December 2021 and was scheduled to return home this summer. Lewellen is survived by his wife and two young children.
