Brandin Cook Color Rush Jerseys: The Best and Worst

By Sharon R. Lee

Brandin Cooks is a wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2014 and played there for four seasons before being traded to LA this past offseason.

Cooks has been a consistent producer on offense since entering the league, totaling over 6,000 yards from scrimmage and 55 touchdowns during his career so far.

In late June, he'll become the first player in NFL history to wear a color rush jersey that isn't white or black.

The Rams are going with gold jerseys for their Thursday night game against Seattle on September 20th as part of Color Rush Week the NFL's annual program where every team wears one-time-only uniforms in an effort to sell more jerseys than ever before (it worked!).

And Cooks will be wearing No. 12 on his back while he runs routes downfield alongside Jared Goff and Todd Gurley later this month:

The Patriots’ Color Rush uniforms are a hard one to rank.

The Patriots’ Color Rush uniforms are a hard one to rank. The jersey color is fine, and the stripes are good, but it’s just too much. The entire uniform looks like an oversize basketball jersey, which is never a good look in football.

The Titans have a lot going on with their Color Rush uniform: white pants, red numbers and stripes on both jerseys (top and bottom), three colors (red, yellow and blue) that don’t match well together. It definitely looks like they were trying too hard with these ones!

The Texans’ Color Rush uniforms are the worst look in the NFL.

The helmet is too busy. The logo looks like an alien head, and it's hard to tell if it's supposed to be a T or an H on the chest. The pants have some weird stripes going down them, which are just bad all around.

And then there's this floral pattern on the socks that makes them look like something you'd find at Anthropologie. In short: These uniforms need a lot of work to make them even remotely decent and they're not even decent right now!

Why did the Titans choose orange?

The Titans have been wearing orange since they moved from Houston to Nashville in 1997, and the team's official website says that the color "makes a bold statement."

It's also a good match for the Titans' logo, which features an aggressive-looking tiger with big teeth and claws.

On top of that, it's a natural fit for their fans: Tennessee has one of the largest populations of orange-clad football fans in the country.

In fact, some estimates say that more than half of all jerseys sold during NFL games come from Tennessee fans. And this is because ...

Why is it red, anyway?

For the uninitiated, it's easy to see why Cook might have been excited about his new jersey. After all, he's seen what bad jerseys can look like and how they can ruin a player's day on the field.

But when it comes down to it, the color rush jerseys are kind of a hard one to rank.

There are some solid designs (and some not-so-solid ones), and they're all different enough that there's no clear answer as to which one is best or which one is worst. We've ranked them from worst to best below:

It’s a bad combination of colors.

The color rush jerseys lack the ability to go together. This can be attributed to a number of different factors, but it’s generally due to one or more of the following:

  • The colors are too similar in tone and brightness, which makes for a jarring effect when placed together.

  • The colors clash with one another too much, making it difficult to tell where one ends and another begins (such as red vs orange).

  • The colors are too similar to the team’s primary colors, which creates an ambiguous start-and-stop line that confuses the eye—you don’t know if you should look at this jersey or that jersey first!

Do you like yellow over cream?

When designing uniforms, color combinations are subjective. Some people like them, some don't and there's no right or wrong answer.

Sometimes the color combination is logical: blue and gold make sense on a Chicago Bears jersey because those colors have been used for decades by the team.

But it also doesn't have to be logical; sometimes it's just personal preference and individual taste.

Because of this subjectivity, there are many different opinions on which jerseys are good and which ones are bad and it will be hard for anyone to agree with you 100 percent of the time when you say that one set of jerseys looks better than another set (even though we all know we're right).

So if you want us to tell you whether or not Brandin Cooks' new Color Rush jersey is any good, then sorry but no can do it's not that simple!

All we can do is let you know what our opinions are based on various factors: how much we liked each design before this season started; how much we like each player as a person & athlete; where NFL teams stand within their respective divisions when compared against one another over time; etcetera ete

Why did the Rams choose that color?

The Rams chose their Color Rush jersey to stand out. They wanted to be different and unique, not just another team in blue or red.

As a team with a long history, they felt that “it would be fun for us to go back to the days of our glory: when we were the Los Angeles Rams and we had some really great uniforms that people loved.”

Black and gold looks good on them.

Black and gold looks good on them. No, I'm not talking about the Cleveland Browns (although they could use some help in that department). The Brandin Cook Color Rush jerseys are nicely designed and feature a color scheme that works well for a number of teams.

Here are some examples:

  • Pittsburgh Steelers - Gold is an iconic Steelers color, so it makes sense that they should have one of these jerseys in their wardrobe. Similarly, black is a traditional Steelers shade as well.

  • Dallas Cowboys - Black and white aren't exactly unique colors to this team, but they do make a nice combination with their usual blue pants. This jersey would look even better if the sleeves had stripes!

The Bucs made a good choice with pewter.

The Bucs' new white color rush jersey is a good choice. The pewter color looks sharp, and it pairs nicely with the orange piping on the sleeves and neckline.

The font used for player names and numbers has a clean look that doesn't overpower the rest of the design, but also doesn't get lost in it either.

They've chosen to use a small number font for their players' numbers (a wise choice), as well as placing them at chest level rather than higher up on their shoulders like some other teams do this makes them more visible from a distance without competing directly with any other elements of the design.

The pewter pants have been done well too: they're simple with just enough detail to make them distinctive without making them too busy or distracting; they're also light-colored enough that they don't clash with any part of your outfit if you choose to wear something dark underneath them!

You might think this sounds too good to be true...but no! You can order these jerseys right now by clicking here!

The Chargers made an unusual choice for their look.

We'll start off with a look at the Chargers, who chose to go with an unusual color scheme for their Color Rush jerseys. If you've ever seen or worn a throwback jersey from any of those decades before, then you know what they look like: they're red and blue, but only in certain spots (mostly on the shoulders and sleeves).

In other areas namely, on the chest and pants they have yellow accents instead. The Chargers were one of two teams that went this route for their jersey design when it came time to pick up their own Color Rush threads (the other being Carolina).

The result is...unique? But also not really? It's hard to say whether or not this was a successful attempt at doing something new; it seems like something should have been done differently here so as not to resemble so many other teams' uniforms from years past quite so much.

These were inspired by their glory days.

These jerseys are a tribute to the team's first Super Bowl win, first Super Bowl appearance and their first Super Bowl game.

Brandin Cooks has worn some bad jerseys, and some great jerseys.

I’ve assembled a list of the best and worst color rush jerseys. The best ones are inspired by the team’s history, like when the Patriots wore their Super Bowl XXXVIII jerseys against the Packers in 2004.

They were a nod to how far they had come since 2001 and it was cool to see them pull that out of storage for one game.

The best jerseys also pay homage to their colors or logo, like when Redskins wore these beauties against Dallas in 2015:

Finally, there are some jerseys that just don't work at all and make me ask "why?" I'm looking at you Eagles fans who tried on these monstrosities last year:

Conclusion

The Color Rush uniforms in the NFL have been a hit-or-miss affair. Some teams have made good choices, and some haven’t. It seems like most teams are going for something simple, with just a few small details added to make them stand out from their regular uniforms.

Overall, I think that these are better than what we saw last year when teams were forced into wearing ugly Christmas colors!
