How to change the color of my Afterglow xbox one controller

By Sharon R. Lee

I've been using my Afterglow xbox one controller for years, but I had no idea that it was possible to change the colors of the buttons and triggers. It's a pretty easy process, but it took me months of looking online before I found any information on how to do it. Hopefully this tutorial will save you some time if you want to customize your controller!

Make sure your controller is turned off.

Begin by making sure that your controller is turned off. This can be done by holding down the Guide button on the front of your Xbox One (or pushing it in) and then selecting Power from the menu that appears.

Next, turn off your console and then turn off any additional controllers connected to it the process should be very similar to turning off an Xbox One controller itself: hold down a button until you see a circle appear around it, indicating that its power has been shut down. Make sure not to leave anything on when you're done!

Finally, make sure none of the devices are in pairing mode — whether this means putting them into pairing mode or removing them from pairing mode will depend on how they work with one another, so refer back if necessary!

Take a small pin and insert it into the reset hole on the back of the controller.

  • Do not use a paper clip or any other sharp object to push the reset button. You want to be careful not to puncture the controller's casing, as that could cause damage inside that would render it ineffective.

Press and hold the sync button on the top of the controller until it starts blinking rapidly.

Now that you have the headset connected, press and hold the sync button on the top of the controller until it starts blinking rapidly. The controller will blink rapidly while being synced.

Turn on your xbox one console by pressing the xbox button on your controller.

To turn on your xbox one console, press the xbox button on your controller.

To sync your controller with the console, press and hold the sync button for about two seconds until it starts blinking rapidly. This will signal that it is ready to be paired with a new device.

Now, connect your Afterglow Xbox One Controller to a USB port on your computer using an included micro-USB cable. Once connected, you'll see a green light turn on at the top of each controller's backside (they both light up).

This will allow you to change its color scheme or update its firmware!

Go to settings > devices & accessories.

  • Go to settings > devices & accessories.

  • Select the controller you want to customize from the left-hand navigation pane, then select Customize from the right-hand navigation pane:

  • (Optional) If you're using a standard Xbox One controller, you can choose to change its thumbstick style and D-pad style. If you're using an Elite or Scuf controller, these options won't appear; however, these controllers offer a wider selection of customization options than standard controllers:

  • (Optional) Choose one or more attributes for which you'd like your controller customized:

Choose the controller you want to customize.

Once you've chosen the controller you want to customize, it's time to select the color and attribute that you want. The process is a little different this time around because now we're dealing with two separate things:

  • Customizing your controller's color.

  • Customizing your controller's attribute (or effects).

Select "customize" and choose which attributes of your controller you would like to change, including color, thumbstick style, d-pad style, triggers, bumpers, etc..

The next step is to select "customize" and choose which attributes of your controller you would like to change, including color, thumbstick style, d-pad style, triggers and bumpers.

The last step is to wait for the controller to be delivered!

The process is easy, but can be difficult to find information on.

The process of changing the color of your Afterglow xbox one controller is simple, but there isn't a lot of information out there. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to have a UV-LED flashlight and a glue gun on hand.

First, you will want to change the batteries in your Afterglow xbox one controller so they are fully charged. This is important because you don't want them running out while you're working on this project!

Next, find yourself an open space where nothing valuable can be damaged by hot glue or UV rays. You'll also want enough room for both hands to grip the controller comfortably during this process as well as enough light for what's about to happen next:
